(ECNS) -- CMC Pictures announced Friday that the Chinese animation Ne Zha 2 has surpassed 100 million yuan (about $13.8 million) in overseas box office revenue.
The film was released in 945 theaters across North America, marking the largest release ever for a Chinese-language film from the mainland.
Since its North American premiere on Feb. 14, Ne Zha 2 has been screened in over 770 theaters, setting new records for both pre-sale tickets and screening numbers for a Chinese-language film in the region over the past 20 years.
Over its opening weekend alone, the film grossed an estimated $7.21 million, securing a spot among the top five of the North American weekend box office rankings.
This achievement also marks the highest opening weekend box office performance for a Chinese domestic film in North America in recent years.
Ne Zha 2, the sequel to the highly acclaimed Ne Zha 1 (2019), continues the story of Ne Zha and Ao Bing as they undergo a rebirth while facing challenges and adversaries.
Directed by Yang Yu, the film impresses audiences with its stunning animation and thrilling plots.
It has made history by surpassing Pixar's blockbuster Inside Out 2 to become the world's highest-grossing animated film of all time.
