Wheelchair Users Can Now Access China’s 15th National Games Venue

As one of the venues for the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th National Special Olympic Games of the People’s Republic of China in Shenzhen, the Shenzhen Sports Center will host events such as badminton, football, archery, and darts.

In 2020, the center underwent a major renovation and expansion, adding 376,300 square meters of new and renovated space.

The newly built gymnasium has been expanded into a comprehensive venue with a capacity of 15,000 spectators. It is China’s first large-scale venue to integrate a retractable roof and a foldable, movable scoreboard. This allows for quick switching between 16 high-level sports events, such as basketball and tennis.

The center places a high priority on sports technology and barrier-free facility construction. It features accessible restrooms, wheelchair seating, elevators, and tactile paving. Circulation routes are optimized for spectators, athletes, media and others.

Unique accessibility features include Braille handrail, Braille layout maps, and voice navigation. By combining technology with human-centered design, it enhances both athletic performance and the city's welcoming atmosphere.
